Most drivers who call us about a car windshield want to pay cash and be done with it. If you are still weighing that against an insurance claim, here is how to work it out in a couple of minutes.

What a windshield costs without insurance

At Gomez Auto & Truck Glass, car and SUV windshields start in the $200s. Windshields with a camera or sensors cost more, so give us your year, make and model for the exact price. Across Bakersfield, quotes run from about $217 to $695, according to Glass.net.

Does insurance cover a windshield?

Usually, if you carry comprehensive coverage. But your deductible still applies unless your state says otherwise. Only three states require insurers to replace a windshield with no deductible: Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina, according to Progressive. California and Texas are not on that list, so in Bakersfield, Laredo and Converse your deductible normally applies unless you bought separate glass coverage.

When paying cash is cheaper

Put your deductible next to the price of the glass. If your deductible is $500 and the windshield costs less than that, a claim saves you nothing: you pay the full price either way. Paying directly also means you skip the claim altogether.

If your deductible is low, or your policy includes full glass coverage, call your insurer first. Then call us and compare.

How long it takes

Most car and SUV windshields take about 60 to 90 minutes. If you cannot bring the car in, mobile service is available by appointment. Our work carries a 90-day warranty.
